Health & Safety Permits
On August 4, 2015, the Trenton City Council ratified Ordinance 1615 enacting Health and Safety Inspections for all properties within the City of Trenton effective September 1, 2015. Upon change of ownership, or occupancy, no property may be occupied or used until an inspection of the structure has been conducted and a health/safety permit issued by the City of Trenton.
This Ordinance is intended to preserve property values within the City, and is one component of the City’s plan to identify and eliminate illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system.
Specifically, the following Codes have been adopted and will be subject to enforcement:
- 2006 International Residential Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1523)
- 2006 International Building Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1518)
- 2006 International Existing Building Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1518)
- 2006 International Fire Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1523)
- 2006 International Fuel Gas Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1523)
- 2006 International Mechanical Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1523)
- 2008 National Electric Code (Adopted by Ordinance 1426)
- Illinois Plumbing Code
- Chapter 8 of the Code of Ordinances, City of Trenton, Illinois (Building Code)
- Chapter 46 of the Code of Ordinances, City of Trenton, Illinois (Utility Code)
Health and Safety Inspections will be required ONLY for properties upon change of ownership or occupancy.
Property owners or managers are responsible for making application to City Hall to schedule an inspection. Initial inspections will be scheduled and initiated within 5 days of application. Should a re-inspection be required, it will be scheduled and initiated with thirty (30) days of the prior inspection.

Authorization for Auto-Debit: The auto debit program is available for the billing of water, sewer, and trash accounts. The program allows customers to have their utility bill automatically deducted from their checking or savings account on a monthly basis.
Highway Solicitation Application: Charitable organizations who wish to solicit motorists upon public highways in the City of Trenton are required to complete this form and receive approval from the City prior to engaging in any such solicitation.
Solicitor’s License Application: Every person desiring to engage in soliciting from persons within this Municipality is hereby required to make written application for a Certificate of Registration.

The Trenton Nutrition Center (TNC) serves a hot, delicious meal daily, Monday through Friday, at 11:30 a.m. to all seniors that are past their 60th birthday. This meal is intended for all walk-in customers from Sugar Creek and Lookingglass Townships. No senior will be turned away. A $5.00 donation is asked at the door.
